No need, you sit with your bike, in gear on the side stand. It's really smooth.

Heading out myself on the 22nd with 6 others for a week in the Vosges Mountains and Black Forest, can't come soon enough. Visit to the V1/V2 bunkers at Eperlecques enroute on day 1 plus one of our rides takes us to a visit of part of the Maginot Line.

Have you been to the West coast of France....? It's not exactly inspiring. The road is straight and often sandwiched between grass covered dunes on one side and swampland on the other. Accommodation is mostly expensive and can be hard to come by.

I'd head inland a bit.

Well they used to be well signposted but since last year the government, or at least their equivalent to the DoT, has had something of a campaign apparently. As well as outlawing location based warnings on your sat nav (1500 Euro fine so I'm informed) they've allegedly been taking down the warning signs.

They generally look something like this but are somewhat less animated

Got to agree with Schtum on the West coast bit, best biking areas are generally to the East (Alsace all the way down to Nice) and South of Paris (Massive Central). There are a few nice areas elsewhere but they tend to have expansive boring bits between them. Realise that your plans are set and I'm sure that you'll have a great time.

Same to you, on the subject of beer try Pelforth Brune, one of the many reasons why I love France

I'm sure that they'll point you in the direction of some good local roads. If in the Vendee then maybe a visit to Noirmoutier Island across the causeway, just take heed of the refuge towers if crossing as the tide is coming in...

Will keep an eye out for you at the battlefields - I'm there with 140 RGS boys for a long weekend...! (there are a few other staff along in 4 buses....)

Speed cameras had no warning at all last time I was there - tho the ones that flashed me were all front-on so no number plate......

Have a good one. AA

Agreed, the roads are a dull affair, but La Rochelle is a beautiful place, Ile d' Oléron and Ile de Ré are well worth exploring and there's some mighty good eatin' to be had in Marennes - the small restaurants around Port la Cayenne in particular.

As a registered user I'm not sure that you can. You can still host them elsewhere, somewhere like Photobucket, and then add them to your posts using the picture button

Hope you had fun Mar - I nearly got a restraining order for pouncing on every VFR I saw..... several! None of them you, but all very nice folks of course.

We managed to lose none of the boys, and only one member of staff in Albert

Wish I'd had the bike tho - weather was mostly fab. AA
