No body nods

To me a bike is a bike is a bike, if someone going the other way nods I nod back, it's what I've always done.
Bloody amazing how which bike you ride seems to make a difference, if I go out on the C90 I can nod my head off and hardly anyone bothers to nod back, go out on the VFR and it's no prob, a quick nod will get one back 9 times out of 10.
WHY?

Funny, I was out yesterday on my K1200 - seems like hardly anyone nods any more - just the odd one or two now and again.

More than usually get a nod, or a wave, even on the motorway at rush hour. If they don't it's no loss.

I always nod/wave to scooters, I can almost see the look on their face under their helmet "Who the hell is that?"

Have noticed that fewer nods are returned when on the pan, than when on the VFR.
I nod to everybody scooters, bikes whoteva.Even found myself nodding to bikes when driving the car.

I'm not getting worked up, it was just an observation that annoyed me at the time.

I make a point of telling trainees that it's good manners to nod/wave or flash [the lights ] at fellow bikers and educate them in the Thumbs up or down routine. I wonder do all trainers, might be worth considering, how else will the tradition carry on.

Anyway Mick, heres a bunch of boys that will wave at you.

It's coming to that time of year when the 'Power Rangers' start to venture out, more bikes on the road makes you feel there are less nods about.

Me personally, I'll nod or wave to any two wheeler.

Thing is Mick, I suspect for a lot of people these days, a bike is more about a mode of transport than a hobby or way of life as it is to some, and probably used to be to a lot more. Modern bikers don't seem to either want to share, or recognise the camaraderie that we see as part and parcel of being a biker.

Misread the title as no body nods. I was wondering what the hell a body nod was but now I realise

I used to get about 50% of nods returned when I was on my trusty NS125R-K. I think some people were put off by the loud 2-stroke engine - but as I was wearing proper leathers etc it appears that I looked like a proper biker, albeit a small one

I got more nods on the NC24 and now on the SV650. I also find myself nodding in the car

If I don't know them I don't nod but I'll stop if I think they have broken down.

England just isn't as friendly a place as it used to be, too much traffic and too many people fighting for space. I got 100% nod/wave back in Scotland last year and always do in the US too. But I wasn't commuting into an urban area there and everyone else was riding do fun too. Don't sweat the small stuff, keep it up, it will always make you feel good to acknowledge another.

I have been motorcycling since 1959 and noticed this waving and nodding lark in 1990 when in France and it just seems to have got out of hand. A bit like who has got the largest number of friends on Facebook it is shallow. Of course if I see somebody I know coming towards me then I will acknowledge them. There are too many other things to be concentrating on when riding than nodding or waving.
