Tyre Life
I've got a 2,000 mile holiday around Spain and France mid July and I want to make sure I've no tyre worries while I'm away. I will have around 2,300-2,500 miles on the tyres when I get back from Assen and as I've no idea how far the tyres will go I'm tempted to put a new set on before I go.
What's the worst and best mileage people have had out of a set so far? I always went for Avon Storms on my Blackbird so I'm tempted to give them a try on the VRF rather than another set of Bridgestone's. Any others recomended? Allan |

Can't say Allan, though the Roadsmarts are the obvious next choice. I also had the Storm STs on my Blackbird and they were really good so they're high on my list to evaluate when I amready for the next set.

Never really measured accurately but I'd say I get around 6k for a rear and 9k for a front on a pair of Metzeler Z6s

Didn't know we were talking about a 1200, I was speaking of my 800. Don't know that the 1200 would be much different though would it?

Hi,
seems as though Dunlop roadsmarts are very popular, so much so I could not get any for weeks, I think Ian also found a problem sourcing some. I settled for what I know next-best, Michelin ![]() http://www.michelin.co.uk/connected/...&carId=TW74780 I'm still waiting for my bike to be returned so cannot comment yet on how good they are but from my experiences on my K1200S they were excellent, I was offered Bridgestone replacements but not going near those tyres ever again ![]() Rob

That's what we're trying to work out (it was in a VFR1200 thread). No one's got to those sort of mileages yet so we don't know if it will go as far as a 800. Nice if it will but I doubt it. Do Metzeler do the right sizes for the 12?

crikey - mine are frazzled after 1035 miles........edges have lost the tra=ead and the tyres are still 'rounded' without squared edges.

I should opt for the pirelli angel st or the Michelin pilotroad 2CT. These tires where tested as the best in a german magazine.
From own experience i know that the MPR2 will give a very good milage. |

I know that Metzeler's new 'Interact' tyre is supposed to be very good and they do an 'Z8' in the right sizes for the VFR1200. I'll be getting the new interact Z6 for the 800 next time round. Not sure if they're the best but they give me total confidence in both wet and dry and last for ages and, as yet, I've not found a reason to change brands. |

Michelin Pilot Road 2. I'm hearing reports of major long wear.

I have 2300 miles on the clock and the tyre is at the end of life, but that happend on my ZZR1400 after 1200 miles.
The tyre these new bikes come with don't seem last that long, I think the compound must be soft as the second same make tyre then lasted 4000 miles. Been quoted £165 for a roadsmart fitted to the bike, the same place for the ZZR last year was £197, so I don't feel too bad. |
