i have recently bought myself my 1st big bike, a sweet VFR400 in the repsol colours.
problem is, i cant get it to start. iv had new plugs, battery ect basically a small service but still no start.
i put a new battery in on a friday and i managed to start it and ride it for the day but by saturday eve the battery was completely dead, alternator trouble?
also in low revs its spluttering quite alot, sometimes bike cuts out completely could this be blocked carbs?
any info or help would be very appreciated, as a new rider im in desperate need to ride my new toy!

Check if the alternator and reg/rec is charging the battery, if not get a new one an possibly a new battery depending on how old the battery is as the alternator and reg/rec can skrew the battery up too. Have a look at these links. I replaced mine and my bike is running as sweet as :D

Put a voltmeter across the battery terminals and check that it is 12v or just over without engine running and 14-14.5v with engine running. These measurements should be steady within a small margin. If not its probably the rectifier which in turn will fry your battery.

If its not rising to 14v then its not charging so check the charging circuit.
