View Full Version : VFR Paint
Thought I would give this chap a try as I’ve been struggling to find a decent match for the silver paint on my A2 vtec. He advertises on ebay, I’ll let you know as soon as it arrives. £7.95 + £2 p&p.

:wotcha:
I got a bottle of the R158P (red) for my 97 VFR750 and it appears to be a very good match.
It comes in a small bottle with a brush in the lid (like a nail varnish type)
You get a card giving you application tips as well (at least i did)
He also does clear lauquer which is a couple of quid cheaper than the paint.
I payed with postal orders and received it within a couple of days.
All in all i am pleased with the quality of the stuff :) :) :)
Don't know does muppet do paint?
Muppet is the club bike medic, but i think he's in the middle of moving house at the moment.

Well this might lead to a useful end, pappaboy looks happy with his paint. If we had one sorce for touch up paint it might be useful.

Yes i am :D :D
Definately worth it in my book
:wotcha: just out of intrest there is a company called RS motorbike paint if you still have problems with the paint then give them a call they do all the paint for honda or look on the web site www.rsbikepaint.co.uk hope this helps
What about Muppet? couldnt he help you :dunno:
Nice of you to give me a mention mate but just supplying paint isn't really what I do. I do the repairs and re-painting as well.
Not heard of this guy, but I know RS are good. That said, so long as he's got the right colour code formula mixes then he should get a good match.
I have used RS on a previous bike and wasn’t very please with the match, so thought that I would give this chap a try. It came this morning so as soon as I get a chance I’ll try it.

Most paints fade after a while, can't be helped, they do stand up to an aweful lot of nasty chemicals, sunlight and suchlike.
Honda's tend to be painted in straight topcoat finish, supplanted with decals and the tanks are basecoat and laquer finished, to provide petrol damage reistance. The different finish can also lead to a changing in the paintwork from tank to fairing over several years.
With this occurance, it's a bit unrealistic to expect a company to provide an exact match for a touch up over the phone. They'll go with the code and produce an exact match for the paint at the time it was put on, and the years of ultraviolet abuse cannot be taken into account.
Clive, without wanting to step on his toes, will most probably adjust his blend slightly to take the fading into account.
Again, a bike used daily and parked outside will fade far quicker than one used rarely or parked under cover or in a garage.
Remember this when ordering paint over the phone.
Good fun, innit!

RS Bikepaints are good.
You'll get an OK match on new paint as long as its silver, black or green.
You'll get an OK-ish match on older paint as long as the bike is silver, black or green. The only way to get a perfect match on any colour, or a good match on the Yellow, Red and Blue bikes, is to re-spray the whole thing. Cost about £400-800.
Or do like me - put up with the chips and scratches, they won't make it rust.
Dave
The two bikes that I’ve used RS paint on where fairly new but red so that may explain that, but in the end I took a panel down to Halford's and did a match that way. I got an identical match mainly because the Halford's touch up paint tubes are clear allowing you to really have a good look at the colour match, but this is very time consuming. I think, but I’m not sure that the RS paint is oil based paint or something like a teckaloid which filled the chips perfectly as it could be cut back with out damaging the surrounding paint and is thick but would change colour when cut back. The touch up from Halford's and the one above are base coats designed to be used with a clear coat and don’t fill the chip very well, but all I really want to do is just hide the chips and scratches not restore the bike to as new. I suppose the only true answer is to go down to your local paint shop and ask for a litre of the appropriate colour, but this tends to be expensive so I was hoping that the above touch ups where smaller versions of that, thus reducing waist and cost. :dunno:
Well I tried the touch up paint today and must say that the colour match was bang on, for a silver 03vtec anyway. Pappaboy has also give it a thumbs up on his 97 750 so that’s two recommendations. I would say that the bottle of paint is only about half full but there’s is more than enough there. You will probably need a finer brush for accurate touching up and some cellous thinners to clean the brush after. (Keep well away from your bike). I’ll email him and see if he is prepared to offer the club a discount.
