If you're heading for the Med then as per the other post, Grenoble to Grasse, the N85, Route Napolean, deemed to be one of the best roads in Europe, it is awesome.
Or if you're heading south towards Spain you could do some of the Cols, think the highest is the Col du Tourmelet.
Enjoy:)

Erm.... Are you not leaving it a little to book anywhere to stay???

Haven't traveled to south of France before so be interested to know how you get on with last minute bookings...

Make sure you have a full tank of fuel. Last time I disembarked there, the local supermarket filling station didn't take our cards at the self-service pumps at 6 am.
If you are travelling with 4 people only and willing to share rooms, finding accommodation on spec might not be too hard, but you might want to look off the beaten track. Someone speaking French here would be good.

Otherwise, head into the nearest town, find the tourist office (before it shuts at 5) and see if they can ring around for you. They'll keep a list of local B&B's and tick off their availability as people book them.

If you want to book ahead, look up www.accorhotels.com which will give you a choice of locations and prices from Formule Un & Etap up to Mercure or IBis rates. Alternatively try www.hotels-bb.com which is similar but lets you book a twin room. Brekkie is bread and scrape at this end of the scale but for £35-£45 a night is not too bad.

If you find yourself heading to or from Dijon, take the N71 (971 on Google maps) and stop off in Aisey Sur Seine. The Hotel du Roy do gourmet food for not much money, plus accommodation or there's an old lady who runs a B&B 3kms up the road.

Good luck and enjoy.

I've toured Europe nearly every year for the last 20 yrs, all I ever book are the ferrys out and back, never had any problems getting a room. Obviously if you're travelling as a large single sex group then rooms may be more difficult to get, but if in couples or smallish numbers, then rooms usually not a problem. Usually use Formula 1's, Ibis, Campaniles, all cheap and cheerful.

+1 but can also highly recommend the riders rest if you are in that neck of the woods

The owner and his wife are both bikers and will ensure that you get the most out of your stay Lots of fast, twisty roads that are usually empty.

I think you are all mistaken....................... It says at the start of his thread "4 vfr 1200s in total"

These chaps can afford VFR1200s therefore they shall not be slumming it in hotels that do not employ bell boys draped in gold tassels dothing their caps at the entrance!!!!:d:

They will probably have a support team behind in a van carrying their luggage:yo:

And no I'm not jealous:violin:

Have a great adventure guys
