View Full Version : Average Age

I had the pleasure of a fantastic day tazzing around the Cat and Fiddle and surrounding roads on Wed on the new VFR1200, and I must admit I was very impressed.

Very different but very much a VFR. When I got my 09 Vtec back I was left thinking that the 1200 was a much more grown up bike and as such was wondering what the average age of a VFR 1200 Owner is? At 37 I felt it was just a little bit too grown up for me. Yet I cannot think of any model of VFR, 750 or 800, that would apply to.

So here goes, if you own a VFR 1200 how old are you?:h:

I'm in my early 50's, and I wouldn't be suprised if that's somewhere near the average age of a 1200 owner.:)

bentleybadger

Blimey, only one under 30 so far and thanks for the responses.

I suspected as such, but guess it was as a combination of factors from type of riding, experience and the price rather than implying it is an older persons bike. I cannot imagine it being anyone first bike.

What is the great quote; for every year that passes the average age of the motorcyclist in the UK increases by one year, we are not attracting enough young blood into our fold and sooner or later this will be reflected in the products we get, high quality, comfortable, fast but easier to ride for longer.

Allanvfr
28-08-2010, 08:49
It stands to reason that the sort of people that can afford a £12k motorbike are going to be our sort of age range, but it's also true that the average bikers's age in the UK is also moving inexorably upwards too.

That's why Honda produced a bike like the VFR. It suits us way better than a 'blade.

bentleybadger
28-08-2010, 09:20
AllenVFR, I agree but given that most of the superbikes are now in that price range and the Vtec is around the same cost as a 600, it's more expensive for all of us, and at the last trackday I attended I will put good money that the average age of everyone there will be higher than that of the 1200 riders on this foum and mine was the only VFR to be seen. The only other 'sports tourer' was a Busa.

I suspect the difference is that as VFR riders we already know how good we are and don't need a Blade or an R1 to prove it. :d::woosh:

...waiting for (and needing!) helibars to be developed for the DCT

You might have quite a long wait ahead of you if the response from R&G is anything to go by. Apparently the DCT and Clutch versions have different radiators. So they will not be bothered with making DCT radiator guards. The DCT Helibars will require quite a lot of re-engineering and I will be surprised if they will spend the effort to make a couple for the few folks that "need" them.

I went to the launch evening and thought the VFR was nothing special and tooo expensive for a pauper like me.
Unfortunately for my bank balance, out of curiosity I booked a test ride in the middle of March......Rode the machine on a familiar route and within a week I had traded in my 2006 Triumph ST 1050 Sprint for a Red one. Now I really am skint!!:bang:

After the Triumph, I was very impressed with the brakes, great handling, the low speed manoevering, fairly insane performance and oh yes, when it was dark, I could actually see where I was going. Those Triumph lights are really poor!!

No motorcycle is perfect, but this Viffer nearly is. I find the seat a bit numb bummish after about 1 hours riding. I am going to upgrade it, and I do think the 18.5 litre tank could grow by a couple of litres!

Many thanks again for the responses, of the 25 declared ages, the youngest is 28 and the oldest 59, so that is a wide range. The average age so far is 47 years (well 46.68 to be exact). To be honest that is almost what I expected, lots of experience and the knowledge of what makes a good bike and one that is very easy to cover a lot of ground on.

Many thanks again, a few more years and I will be joining you I suspect...

traded in 08 fireblade and blackbird for vfr1200 after 2 hr test ride. Had dodgy hip and wanted something more comfortable Had hip replaced in June , back on bike 6 weeks later , great no pain. Now thinking maybe should have kept blade etc , but having ridden my cb1000r naked to work today and then going straight out for a blast on the vfr1200 to compare , I made the right decision , it's just as much fun !

Don't know.. last time I visited, the Dollar wasn't doing so good. I paid a hefty price for a locally crafted vase to take back with me. The darn thing, although beautiful, can be put in a small purse and cost me almost $200 before all the charges and importation tax was done!

It sits on my coffee table and I won't let anyone touch it!! :t:

Hi all,

Helibars transformed the 1200 into a comfy long disitance tourer for me taking away the wrist ache sufferred after 3 - 4 hours of travel. I was impressed with the comprehensive instructions for fitting with lots of pictures (worth a thpousand words!!). It took around two hours but that was being extremely careful. Certainly worked for me - bike now as comfortable as my 800FiY - which I also had helibars on!
