I've got a 2,000 mile holiday around Spain and France mid July and I want to make sure I've no tyre worries while I'm away. I will have around 2,300-2,500 miles on the tyres when I get back from Assen and as I've no idea how far the tyres will go I'm tempted to put a new set on before I go.

What's the worst and best mileage people have had out of a set so far? I always went for Avon Storms on my Blackbird so I'm tempted to give them a try on the VRF rather than another set of Bridgestone's. Any others recomended?

Can't say Allan, though the Roadsmarts are the obvious next choice. I also had the Storm STs on my Blackbird and they were really good so they're high on my list to evaluate when I amready for the next set.

Never really measured accurately but I'd say I get around 6k for a rear and 9k for a front on a pair of Metzeler Z6s

On a VFR1200?

Didn't know we were talking about a 1200, I was speaking of my 800. Don't know that the 1200 would be much different though would it?

Hi,

seems as though Dunlop roadsmarts are very popular, so much so I could not get any for weeks, I think Ian also found a problem sourcing some.

I settled for what I know next-best, Michelin :)

http://www.michelin.co.uk/connected/motorcycles/pilot-road-2?fromTyreSelector=true&brand=honda&model=vfr%201200&year=2010&frontSize=TW3525&rearSize=TW3531&carId=TW74780

I'm still waiting for my bike to be returned so cannot comment yet on how good they are but from my experiences on my K1200S they were excellent, I was offered Bridgestone replacements but not going near those tyres ever again

That's what we're trying to work out (it was in a VFR1200 thread). No one's got to those sort of mileages yet so we don't know if it will go as far as a 800. Nice if it will but I doubt it. Do Metzeler do the right sizes for the 12?

crikey - mine are frazzled after 1035 miles........edges have lost the tra=ead and the tyres are still 'rounded' without squared edges.

I should opt for the pirelli angel st or the Michelin pilotroad 2CT. These tires where tested as the best in a german magazine.
From own experience i know that the MPR2 will give a very good milage.

You're right, sorry my mistake I just hit 'new posts' and didn't look to see that it was a 1200 thread.

I know that Metzeler's new 'Interact (http://www.metzelermoto.co.uk/web/catalog/moto/moto_catalogo_schedaDescription.page?categoria=/catalog/moto/sport_touring/none&vehicleType=MOTO&product_id=883913&uri=/metzeler/en_GB/browser/xml/catalog/moto/RoadtecZ8_Interact.xml&menu_item=/products/catalog/sport_touring)' tyre is supposed to be very good and they do an 'Z8' in the right sizes for the VFR1200.
I'll be getting the new interact Z6 for the 800 next time round. Not sure if they're the best but they give me total confidence in both wet and dry and last for ages and, as yet, I've not found a reason to change brands.

had these on the K12 and was getting similar mileage
maybe 5k for the rear can't remember regarding the front
never had a moment with them in the wet or dry great tyre and very neutral
no sudden drop in to the corner.

Just saw this (http://www.metzelermoto.co.uk/web/experience/special_events/roadtecz8/default.page)on the Metzeler site of the new Z8 tyre which they have just launched this month. Plenty of pictures of the VFR1200 shod with Z8s.

Excellent, thanks for that. Good to add another option to the relatively short list!

Michelin Pilot Road 2. I'm hearing reports of major long wear.

I have 2300 miles on the clock and the tyre is at the end of life, but that happend on my ZZR1400 after 1200 miles.

The tyre these new bikes come with don't seem last that long, I think the compound must be soft as the second same make tyre then lasted 4000 miles.

Been quoted £165 for a roadsmart fitted to the bike, the same place for the ZZR last year was £197, so I don't feel too bad.

Hi TM, I had these fitted to my K1200S and they did last very well, in fact I had the same tyres on it when I sold it after 4,000 - odd miles, still looked like a few thousand left in them, brilliant tyre for that bike. I hope the same will apply to the VFR as I have mine fitted now and just have to scrub them and get some miles done before reporting if they suit the VFR.

Hello there. How PR2 tyres have suited your VFR?
I need to replace my original Roadsmart back tyre after 4.6k miles and I'm planning to switch to PR2.

Hi,

they are an excellent tyre and suit the VFR very well in my opinion, only about 800 miles on them so far, so cannot give wear advice.

I've got Mich PR2's on my FJR. They've done 6 k miles on the rear and prob have a couple of thou left. I can thoroughly recommend them. As the VFR is the same weight and a bit more power, they ought to last nearly a long on it.

I can also recommend the Dunlop Roadsmarts. They're about £20 cheaper and as grippy and smooth as the PR2's. Got them on my KTM.:)

Michelin Pilot Road 2. I'm hearing reports of major long wear.

I had going on 10.5k out of a PR2 rear (IAM "progressive" riding) on my VFR750F-S. There was probably another 2-3k left but I had a two hole puncture and had to replace it.

Hi Alan,

the FJR and the VFR are different weights, the VFR is lighter :) My Michelin tyres are excellent, I did start out wanting Dunlop but they were in short supply, at present I can't imagine a better tyre for my bike other than Michelin.

I have now done around 1,000 miles since they were fitted and they're looking great so far.

I now have 2800 miles on my OE 021's and i have to agree with Rob. They are shit. Rode around Wales today like a Granny 'cos i was convinced they were going to have me off. Horrid.

only 1600 ish miles on mine - i like them still ....................

Hi all,

I'm new to the VFR Club and don't even have my VFR yet! Have a 1200 on order and due early September. I can't wait!

Just wondering what rubber to get on it though, I'm thinking I might try Bridgestone's new BT-023. Does anyone have any experience with these? They certainly sound very good and get a good write up.

My dealer said they'd out whatever rubber I wanted on there for when I pick it up :d:

I got the OEM BT021's, done 3330 miles so far, hardly any sign of wear, no issues with performance, I have used Bridgestones for a long time, 'Blade, VFR750, Hayabusa, and found no issue with them. I used to use Metzelers on the VFR, but converted to the latest generation of Bridgestons and caan't fault them, either for wear or handling.

I must admit I don't like the feel from the 021s although I've got no wear issues at the moment. I had Azaro Storm STs on my Blackbird which were great and I've wondered what these would be like on the 1200 (assuming they're still around)

Morning all
I can only echo what others have said about Mich pr2's. I had them on my 1250 bandit GT for a few '000 miles, and they were grippy, gave plenty of feel and confidence, and showed virtually no signs of wear.

I rode this bike hard (30-35mpg) as the guys on RSV-R's and fazer thou's that I ride with will testify!

That bike was a similar weight to the 1200, but that, and the fact it had two wheels, is about the only similarity! In everything else the Honda is in a different league. Don't get me wrong, for the money (I paid £6.5k inc full fairing, luggage, and Garmin Zumo 550 sat-nav) it was a great bike that I kept for two years. It enabled me to continue riding after 30 years on sports bikes and a serious neck operation that ended up with them fitting titanium and plastic joints. ugh.

Anyway, for what it's worth, Mich pr2's are highly recommended by me.

What is the problem with Bridgestone 021's? I dont find them too bad. Will search the site and try to find out.

IMHO tyre choice is a very personal thing, and what is perfect for one rider may not be for another. Tyres also behave differently on different bikes. on the Bandit they used to take ages to warm up, but would then stay warm long enough for a coffee break. Strange but true. The Bridgestones warm up quickly (as quick as the engine on the VFR, about 3km) but cool down just as fast.

Sorry to ramble on a bit,
Ride safe everyone.
