Thumbs up Cheap tobacco, booze, chocolate and porn...

I can think of better reasons to go to France/Belgium for the weekend (like the great roads), but the above seems to appeal to many...

We decided that we needed to get a little French tarmac under our wheels to remind ourselves that spring is on the way. Below is what we have in mind, it's an open invitation so anyone who is interested please reply to the thread. We probably won't finalise the arrangements until 3 weeks before, when we have an average chance of predicting the weather. If it's very likley to be peeing continuously or snowing, we'll abort and reschedule.

Friday 20 th April: Meet at the Chunnel, have a stupidly expensive coffee and take the piss out of each other for an hour or so before crossing to Calais.

Take a nice ride down the coast road to Le Touquet for some lunch - a great intro to the pleasures of riding in France if you haven't been before.

Coast Road

After lunch we’ll head to the town of St Omer where we'll be staying at the Frangins hotel. Right in the centre of town, typically French and recently referbished, it'll be the perfect base for us for the next two nights. The owner has given a discount (see below) making it great value.

Saturday 21st: A nice, easy ride-out of around 150 miles to the town of Lille and back, stopping for lunch in Lille with the occasional cake and coffee stop just to make sure that we don’t lose any weight. In the afternoon we could visit the V2 rocket site which is close by if anyone is interested (see below) then back to the same hotel in St Omer and out for dinner.

Sunday 22nd: A run up to tobacco alley in Belgium for the promised offer of cheap tobacco, booze, chocolate and porn. If we are still feeling in the mood to ride, we could go to Brugge for lunch, but we’ll see how the weather and mood takes us, no hard rules here. Then back to the chunnel and Blighty.

We’ll be riding as a group on a planned route, so no special abilities needed. All you’ll need is the ability to take the piss, or have it taken out of you and to speak unmitigated bollox when drinking alcohol – oh and you might need to be able to find your way home to the hotel after dinner, but I expect they’ll be people lying in the gutter along the way to guide you.

The good news is that through the club our flexible return tunnel fair is only £40 each bike. I'll gladly book people with no booking fee, but you'll need to be a sponsor to get the discounted rate I'm afraid else you can still book direct.

So, total cost of the weekend including a the return Eurotunnel crossing and B&B for two nights will be:

Double/Twin single bike sharing: £87 each
Double/Twin sharing on two bikes: £107 each
Single room/bike: £174

I'll start giving numbers to the hotel next week so please let me know asap if you'd like to come.

Je meurs d'impatience!

Can't wait, I need some time in the saddle.

It'd be good to catch up with folks following the cold break.

Cheers Keith
