‘Bitwobbly’, also answers to David

When did you first ride?

First rode a bike at the tender age of 16, a Mobylette Mobymatic moped, quality eh?!

What is your current bike and why?

Current bike is a BMW R1200GS. Plenty fast enough for me and even goes round bends! (apparently). It is just amazingly comfy for touring with all the vital accessories the Touring Gentleman expects. Unlike its pilot it is light(ish) and very agile. It has replaced a BMW K1200GT that destroyed its engine, at low speed fortunately so didn’t throw me off. The GS is a much nicer bike and suits me perfectly.

Hopefully you are younger than you look

I wish! Wrong side of 50. I’m not at all impressed with this getting old malarkey.

Are you married?

Happily divorced and engaged to be married to the very gorgeous Claire. Two kids; Littlebitwobbly (Hannah 20) and Tinybitwobbly (Michael 18),

Any interests apart from the obvious?

Good food, good wine and good beer. And Claire!

Any best and worst biking moments?

Best is every ride; especially getting off and into the bar of some nice swanky hotel on tour after a challenging days ride; an ice cold beer: glass dripping with condensation to slake a serious thirst.
Best is trying to keep up with Muppet (always a challenge), never managed it yet and don’t expect I ever will.
Worst moments include trying to keep up with Muppet and paying my bar bill.
Of course meeting up with everyone at the Chunnel ready for a tour has to count as the best bit. I love the feeling of riding off the train at the start of a tour.

What do you like best about touring?

It’s what bikes are for! I have always travelled; fourteen years at sea ignited my passion for travel. Loading up the Gentlemans’ Touring Conveyance and heading off for the tunnel always fills me with anticipation and I get very excited! I get great satisfaction from helping out other riders and leading (or TECing) the extraordinary rides on tour.
I am very privileged to be able to do this as a hobby; life is too short to be a couch potato.
