Default France - The Verdon Gorge - 3rd October 2008

Just thought that I would start a thread/post for this tour,I know most of you are in the midst of getting ready to go on what ever tour, but this tour would help end the year of 2008 off just right, most of you have been to the Hotel Le Calalou, and know first hand just how good it is,so when you get there you will have 4 whole days to have a good'ow look about.
I hope to ride down to the coast on one of these days, the rest I will just chill out.
One of the places I would like to head for would be St. Aygulf, then onto St.Raphael,it's not far from the hotel,or you can make it as far as you like
Anyway, those who are going have you got any idea where you might go,and is anyone else thinking of going on this tour,I think it will be a good'un,

Got to say Ian that of all the tours that I've done ov er the years this area is my all time favourite. The roads around there are second to none, and the hotel is just the cherry on the cake for me.

One of my best days out there last year was on a run out to a place called Gourdon with Keith. It's just a bit north of Grasse. The route there and back was stunning and Gourdon itself is one of those achingly pretty French hilltop villages with magnificent views that make you just sit down and wish that you could more there, that instant.

So, I'll be going there then.........

Ian,

We drove along the coast from Cannes to St Raphael the other year - having come to Cannes over the mountains.

I would absolutely recommend doing it the other way round on a bike - take the coast road into Cannes for lunch, and then head back out over the hills.

Absolutely stunning.

I sooooo want to do this trip. Bastide de Calalou is just perfect. The roads are as near perfect as can be imagined. The scenry is just outstanding and, of course, there's les cuisine et vin Francais.

After already doing Germany and Switzerland, I'm not sure I could swing this one as well, though

Cheers

Thinking about it, but can't make a decision until a lot later, certainly enjoyed last years trip, both riding and company were great.

....... and Gourdon has some very good nosheries too. Major Major and I went there at a slightly more leisurely pace (i.e. he had to keep waiting for me to catch up)
