I want to put heated grips on my '95 RRS. Is it a DIY project? Is there anyone who have tried this? Any helpful tips would be appreciated!

You betcha.
I did it on my 95 R11GS about 7-8 years ago. I don't recall any of the details other than it was absolutely a "plug & Play" deal. I don't remember it being technically difficult at all. Johnny Diamond '95 R11GS '94 R11RS |

Yes, either the stock BMW units or aftermarket (like Hot Grips) are fairly straightforward. I found the aftermarket put out more heat, but they aren't as 'neat' an installation (i.e. don't look like the stock set up). Good luck.

yup... http://www.hotgrips.com/
I don't have any affiliation w/ these guys, I just installed them on my Cagiva back in 2000, and haven't had a problem - just LOTS of heat (esp compared w/ the stock BMW heated gips )

I did this on my previous bike (current one has factory heated grips
). I had difficulty pushing the right grip fully onto the twist-grip inner sleeve. I tried a mallet on the end but got worried about damaging the heating elements!

I meant to add that even though the Hot Grips put out more heat, they are slightly larger in diameter (~1.5"), the wires run outside the handlebars, and you have to mount a non stock power switch (maybe the stock unit will work).

A general guide to installing BMW OEM heated grips on your RS can be found at http://www.ibmwr.org/r-tech/oilheads/hotgrips.r11.shtml
Happy trails. |
