Hello All, I have a quick question. While riding in 2nd gear and using the brakes, trying to use the rear brake more as I find myself using mostly the front, I heard a clunking sound on a few occasions. Almost sounded like a downshift but it wasnt that. Hasn't happened anymore though. Any indications what that could have been? Should I be overly concerned? What gearss are most of you using say going 60 to 80 - 5th after 80 - 6th just curious thanks

Sounds like it's the ABS engaging slightly, mine does that from time to time. I think it might just be the system getting a bit confused by the engine braking affecting the back tyre as well as the rear brake.

Thanks I was thinking something along those lines.

Try finding some wet pavement or a sandy/dirt road.
Get on your rear brake first, and get the ABS to engage. I'll bet the noise is the same. Now, do a straightline panic stop using both brakes. Not only will you get a good feel for what it feels like with the ABS engaged, but you will cycle the brake fluid through the ABS modulator, and keep the parts working (a good thing to do about once each month!) so they don't freeze up. The ABS system checks itself on a regular basis. The sound is clunk clunk. I don't know how it decides but mine does many times during a ride. Usually when I am going slow.

So does mine, but only when moving off in first gear. I don't recall it ever doing the "double clunk" in a higher gear. AFAIK the self-test is speed-related, though, so it might be how ones rides. Anyone managed it it fifth?

IIRC, yes, the self-test is speed related. I've had mine do it when just creeping along, usually with feathering the clutch. Can't imagine getting it to do it in 5th!
