Ladies and Gents,
I am looking for a solid bar mount for a 99 R11RS. At one point I remember seeing a billet replacement for the stock rubber handlebar mountings, but my internet search didn't turn up anything. Does anybody still make these? I'd prefer to do this rather than doing a tubular bar conversion. Has anybody done this before/lately? Experiences? How was the vibration? Any help appreciated! Cheers, Loren |

Loren,
In my book, they go alongside GS tubes as the "must have" modification to a R/RS. However - opinions differ widely. They make the bike much easier to move around off the stand, the bike is easier at slow speeds, they give a feeling of general tautness which I find increases general confidence in the bike. It doesn't handle any better, you just think it does. http://www.tgibson.dircon.co.uk/mods.html#bars (I've just noticed that the link back to here on that page is to the old site - I'll change it later) I have not found a problem with vibration - but others do. I suspect that if you are in the US and one of those "Iron Butt" people it may be more of a problem but I have no ill effects after two hours in the saddle (any further over here and you'r e in the sea !). |

ObiWan, if you're in the US you can get them from BMW of SF for ~$45. Other sources sell them as well. They are simply solid machined aluminum (aluminium) mounts of the same shape as the stock steel/rubber mounts. I replaced mine and I like the improved handling feel. A slight bit more vibration is felt, but it's not a bother for me. YMMV.

Gents,
Thanks for the reply! I sent an email to Parts at BMW SF and didn't receive a reply. Any more info on that part that you may have would be ideal. Companies? Part numbers? Other sources? Any help appreciated! And you're right, am in the States. Cheers, Loren |

Can't recall the manufacturer, although the part # on my receipt is 32712 (aftermarket). $44.95 when I bought mine earlier this year. Call them at 415-863-9000 and ask for motorcycle parts. I was in there a couple of weeks ago and saw one behind the counter... If they have one I could swing by and pick it up and mail it to you, e-mail me if interested.

Gents,
Thanks for the help... maybe BMW SF's parts email is a bit slow. I'm actually overseas right now, but should be home in a few months. I'll probably pick up the parts then. Very appreciative, though! Cheers, Loren |
