Default Still Here

Well guys.

My RS failed to meet reserve on eBay about 20 mins ago - nobody bid it past £1550. So I'll still be here for a while.

Bryan Otter's got a right result because I sold the Wuedo and the Hunter seat to him separately.

I'd Better buy a lottery ticket if I want a new bike !

I paid a lot more than that for my 93 R1100RS about this time last year on e-bay. I had already missed out on a couple of RS inlcuding a cracking black one which went at a great price. Reckon I paid a bit over the odds for mine as it wasn't in as good condition as advertised. It did however run very smoothly and felt great, and did have a low mileage which does seem genuine. I hate trying to sell bikes/cars. Wish they were as easy to get rid of as they were to buy. Mind you I am happy with both my BMW so don't plan on selling them.

Only did the lottery for about the first ten weeks and then realised it was just a tax on the poor. Must have saved a few hundred pounds since then. Mind you it was nice daydreaming about what I would spend the money on if I did win.

Iain

Sorry to hear about it, Terry...really. I looked this evening and couldn't find your bike on ebay ... thought you managed to sell it elsewhere and took it off the auction. Have you tried autotrader...I picked up my RS a couple of years ago out of autotrader...they seem to get their price there.

Oh yeah...yes, I am smiling

Default selling bikes

I don't suppose the time of year helps with summer almost over.

MCN classified might be your best bet. I know it costs a bit, but you should get much better coverage. Alternatively wait until next year and trade it in against a new R1200RS.

Amen to that.

Dealers are offering me between £1000 and £1300 for it

They can't get their heads round the mileage. When they see it on their forecourt they do a "double take" on the "K" plate.

I've put it back on the onwers club board (twice ! ). Someone's got to be prepared to give me £1800 - £2000 for it. "Book" trade is £1795 (with 50k miles)

Terry, when I bought my 2002 R1150RS, neither dealer I spoke to would offer me anything at all for my '94 R1100RS, which had about 150,000 miles on it at the time. I won't say it looked like a creampuff at that point, but it has been well maintained and it's not a rat bike. Obviously, it was worth a lot more to me than it was to them. So now I have it stored in Germany for summer holidays. It cost me $500 to have it shipped and $200/year for storage. It's much cheaper than renting a bike there, and I already have all the touring equipment for it...

Excellent idea.

Now, about that summer house in Southern Brittany

It's probably the same the whole world over - so many people are buying sportbikes and changing them with every new model designation suffix that the only things that sell are 1-3 year old bikes with less than 20k miles on the clock.

I now religiously change family cars at 3 years old whatever the condition and mileage. At least they always have a trade in value. (it's probably why I can't afford a new bike )

Default reason?

Sorry, Terry, but was there a "real" reason why you would get rid of your RS?
Could not be the mileage alone?

Why not change you mind set, and give that gold hearted poor child a new welcome!

Default eBay

I think with eBay, it is very much the luck of the draw, and who is looking at the time of the auction, I know that may sound obvious, but there were several RS's on eBay when I bought mine on the 17 August, all of which I think sold for reasonable money. Perhaps it is getting late in the season, but August weatherwise was appalling, and people were still buying. In fact mine is the same colour as Terry's! I was the only bidder for mine (I have included the link for anyone interested), and I believe that this was down to the colour of the seat,- it's all personal taste at the end of the day, but all of my friends without exception have said something along the lines of 'nice bike but I couldn't live with the seat'. In fact I have to thank Terry's for his link to Melvin Hunter - I sent the seat to him today! It may be worth putting your bike back on eBay and give it another try. Alasdair

Yup, up to March this year I commuted a 200 mile round trip on it on two days a week (Central London on the other days). As a compromise, it works for both. I now use the car for the long commute and it is therefore somewhat spurious for a 13 mile journey into London ( I even use a pedal cycle sometimes so an 1100 is somewhat overkill).

Tell me about it . I have sold cameras for significantly more than I felt they would reach and yet an immaculate original workshop manual for a 1926 Morris Cowley only made £2. To be fair I've bought some bargains as well. I think it is a victim of its own success though - far to many dodgy deals out there now. I had the old "check waiting for an immediate sale" e-mail from Nigeria.

In the same week, eBay (without notice) "pulled" a camera I had because the US importers of a £10 filter I was including in the sale objected (the camera should have gone to about £600). I was livid.

I'd be gutted if it was, having sold the black Hunter seat to Bryan in the same week.

Anyway, enough rattling on - I accepted the bid from the guy who was below my reserve, so all being well it will be gone by Saturday.
