Wink Ever seen a BMW genuine THIN panier lid?

Hi all,

My name is Takeshi, living in Tokyo Japan. I've been a BMW R1100RS rider for 1 year. Just joined as a member of BMW RS club and am happy to post here!

I just found a BMW genuine thin panier lid on the Yahoo!Auction in Japan. The auction's comment says "Genuine but not on sale in Japan". The auction starts at approx US$20 (1,919 JPY), but the spot bid is approx US$260 (27,000 JPY).

Have you ever seen the BMW genuine thin panier lid on the market in your location, and let me know the actual price.

I would like to compare the spot bid with the actual price.

By the way, I have the 3rd party's thin panier lid - works good for commuting in Tokyo.

Thank you!

Takeshi Kudoh

Welcome! Great to hear from members around the world.

I think what you're referring to is called the City Lids here in the US--the narrow/thin lid. BMW part # is 46 54 2 337 019 (left) and 46 54 2 337 020 (right). They are priced around US$61/lid here in the US (Chicago BMW price), plus if you want you can also add the BMW logo and reflector stickers for each side (about US$10/side), but this is optional. So, in the US anyway, you can buy new City Lids from BMW for about US$125 a set (plus tax/shipping), without the badges/reflectors. You can then buy screws, rivets or Kugler Klamps to fasten the lids to the cases. Hope this helps.

Default City Lid

I bought my city lids from these guys: http://www.ascycles.com/

Their service was quick and accurate. I will use them next time too.

Hi,

Thanks for your prompt reply.

Yes, that's what I'm referring to! The price on the Yahoo!Auction is US$260/2Lids, it's almost double... I will then buy the genuine ones by international order once my current narrow lids are broken down!
Do you know if the existing screws can be diverted to the genuine narrow lids to fasten them to my existing case? Not sure if mines are fastened with rivets or screws, but I would like to keep its original design inside.

Thanks,
Takeshi

Not sure what your aftermarket lids are like, but assuming they are the same design/mold as the BMW lids then if you are using screws/nuts to attach them, those same screws/nuts should also work with the BMW City Lids. You could also use rivets if you wanted a more permanent attachment (original BMW standard system case lids are attached with rivets). Or the aformentioned Kugler Klamps work as well (I use them to simplify lid swapping).

Here's another thread on using screws/nuts to attach City Lids...

Good luck!

Wink

As my '94RS is in dock to replace the clutch disk and crankshaft seal, I don't have my RS here with me and cannot check with it to see which one is installed, rivet or screws. Will check once he has come back!

By the way, my narrow lid is produced by "Doken International" - a Japanese BMW aftermarket parts maker.

Cheers... Takeshi
