Default SW Motech Tankbags

Hi

I have decided to get a tank bag. Having thrown out my previous bungy type last year as it was fairly rubbish and didnt sit happily on my RS. Looking at what other people have got and what seams neat and to suite my neads (I just want a medium to small one to put bits and peices in and a map on) I have rounded down to a SW-Motech one as they just seem so neat.

Has anyone in the UK got any sugestions about where to buy the complete kit, in the UK.

Sound Distribution do the bags but only appear to sell locking rings for 2006 onward bikes, i.e not an R..RS, and their kit also excludes the screws . I could order the locking ring direct from Mo-tech in germany (Which would include the screws), but I ideally want to get them both from the same place and from a UK distributor (Makes it easier to swap etc if I am not happy with it).

Default Mystery deapens

Have now spoken to Motohaus who import to the UK. The SM-Motech website specifies part no: TRT.00475.116 which also fits the Yamaha BT1100. However the list that Motohaus has specifies the TRT.00.475.120 Has anyone out their bought one and fitted it, an know which it is

I have PDF's of the fitting instructions for both and it looks like the TRT.00.475.116 is the one to me, but I would be interested to hear anyoune elses thoughts before I get it.

Mike

Could you let us all know what you find out.. as I've been thinking of a small-ish tank bag for the days out.. mostly for things like mobile, map, anything that would be useful to be able to get to without having to get off the bike..

Cheers

Dave

Mike I've got the Quick Lock Engage Tank bag BCK.TR5101 (with electrical connections)
I like the tank bag as it is not too big. I did not intend getting one with the electrical connections - but one came up on ebay and I got it for a great price.
I think you're right and you probably need the :- Tailor made Quick-Lock socket: BMW ( 6 Screws) - TRT.00.475.120
I've also bought a map holder which fits neatly on top of the tank bag.

I'll be bringing the tank bag and map holder to Langdale (UKRS meet) if you can wait that long to see it.

I was thinking of getting it this week so I have it for the meet, Was wanting to take a twisty route up the penines to get their and cant keep the entire route in my head, plus they are just generally usefull.

So Do you have the TRT.00.475.120 ? and I take it it fits? It didnt look quite right to me according tho the fitting instructions but that may be the way they are drawn.

For the life of me I can't find the paperwork for my Quicklock bag and connectors. The tank connector doesn't have any ID externally and I'm not keen to remove it as I'm a little suspicious of the threads in the tank not being good.
I would have thought the BMW 6 screw one would be the one for you. Note only four screws are used to connect the Quick lock tank ring. See photo.

The only difference in the above is that mine has the electrical wiring/connectors.

Sorry I can't be of more help.

You would need to make sure that you buy the tank ring & bag ring with electrics already wired in - The tank one simply lies flat to the front of the tank then loops under the tank - I cable tied the relay to the air intake tube and then connected the wires straight to the battery, making sure that the fuse is accessible when the seat is removed. You would have to wire this one in, or at least tuck the wires tidily under the tank for wiring in later. Note the connections on the tank ring are only live when the tank bag is fitted - there is a magnetic switch on the tank ring which is activated (energising the relay) when the tank bag is fitted. The Bag ring is straight forward to fit - you could wire this one in later - but it is not much extra work after the ring is fitted (just poking a hole into the bag. Remember you will need the Dual Power Supply Outlet to allow you to connect equipment inside the bag.

I never intended to buy the eletrical one as it is much more expensive than the non electrical one - but I just got lucky and bought a brand new unused one off ebay for less than the non electrical one.
If you want electric for a GPS I would add an extra socket on the front left hand panel next to the 3 switches already there (I've done this & it is a much cheaper option). But having said that it is handy having the electrics in the bag to charge the phone.
I don't know which tank bag you want to buy, I've got the 'Quick Lock Engage' bag and find this to be the right size, for carrying smaller items even a small bottle of water. I have never seen the smaller bags but I think that they would be too small.
Sorry this is long winded - hope it helps you decide.

Spoke to the importers again today, sent them your picture Huw, They were still unsure, so asked manufacturers in germany who said that it is the: TRT.00.475.116

So I have ordered one and the Quick Lock Engage Tank bag so it should be here soon And on the bike for the RS Meet.

Thanks Huw
