ABS weirdness

I am commuting a couple of times down a grotty track to a farm.
the last few days the ABS has been reluctant to do it's diagnostic thingy any body got any ideas? I wonder if there is clag blocking a sensor or something.

My 94 RS has trouble doing the test for the ABS when the battery is low. After running for about a mile or so, it does its' check and all is well.

My 94RSL had the same symptoms with a good battery and I solved the problem about a year ago using the fix on the link below. It was a fairly difficult job but each ride since the fix has been a joy. I used a relay from napa, not the bosch and saved a few coins.

You can simply cut the green wire as in the instructions, then extend the two ends up to a cheap single pole switch on your dashboard. This lets you turn the abs on or off on the fly (like a GS) and resets the unit which cures it instantly (once you go below 5mph).
I've had this for a few years now and it works great. You can't forget because the red lights stay on if you do.
Those high tech/output batteries like Odyssy don't necessarily cure this problem for long in the UK winter as I found out.
The relay solution is overkill in my opinion.

Do you have to cut the green wire at the plug to the ABS unit or can you cut it back in the area of the relay recepticle? It seems that it would be easier to do the splice without removing the tank.

You can cut that green wire wherever you like, I did mine at the plug - just make sure you have the right wire!
I had to use my switch a few times this week, it has been -10C here. Even the 1 year Odyssey could not stop the fault.
The cheap switch works fine, it was a universal one found in a car spares shop. No problems even when it gets wet. Best 2 GBP spent in a long time, certainly better than 80GBP for a super battery.
