Default Update, Rick Mayer Saddle

After many missed promisses, I finally received my long awaited Rick Mayer saddles. The front one was and is great. I have not had a chance to take a long ride yet, but it appears to be well made, and is very comfortable. The reach to the ground is a little longer, since the saddle is wider, or at least more square in cross section than stock. The leather work is beautiful. I will try to keep the saddle at its highest setting if I can. Less of a leg kink that way.

The back saddle is a problem. The tabs in the front of the seat pan are both cracked. The saddle would not fit on my bike. It turned out to be for an R1100RS. Mine is an 1150. So, it will be packed up and shipped back to Rick. I can ride with the new front and my factory rear saddle until it arrives. I must mention that Rick has been very helpful throughout this whole ordeal. It just seems terribly difficult to get the saddle. Price is right, and quality very good. Availability bad. If you are willing to wait, much longer than you expect, it may be worth it.

There is a difference? I have used saddles from both on my 1100 and had no problem. Maybe its just that an 1100 wont fit on an 1150, but my 1100 fits an 1150 saddle.

Early 1100RS saddles (95 and earlier, I think) are slightly different on the rear section. Later designs have more reinforced subframe on the back which put the rubber bumpers of the seat pan in a different postion. The subframe I mention has nothing to do with the luggage rack frame btw.

You may be right there, though I have a 94 and have yet to have a seat, out of trying a Russell, 2 stock seat and 2 Corbins.

Default Diference in pans

From looking at the 1100 pan shipped to me, and my stock pan off my 1150, I can see how the 1150 pan would work on the 1100, but not the other way around. I think someone has been using the pan shipped to me on an 1150, which is why the tabs were both broken. The two front rubber bumpers protrude about 1/2 inch more than do the ones on the 1150. It would be pretty easy to mix them up if your were not specifically looking for the difference.
