I needed to replace a fork seal on 94 RS, but don't have info on wt and amount of fluid to use. Can anyone offer up the correct info so I don't have to until Tuesday (when dealer opens) to complete the work.

Drain the used fork oil into a measuring cup... Replace that amount...

When I bought the bike it was leaking already, so the amount in the tube is less than the spec'd amount.

Does anyone hav a manual with this fluid capacity called out and the fluid weight?

Sorry... Not trying to be flippant as I have the Klymer manual, but it's stored and not handy... If you are going to change one fork tube, you might as well do them both... If you do, the method I described will still work... Just measure the tube that's not leaking...

I did mine once a couple of years ago, and I want to say it was 450 ml each tube, but I just don't trust my memory enough to say for certain... I have R1100S fork tubes now, and they take about 1/4 as much, which is adding to my confusion...

I will take a drive up to my storage unit and look it up when day breaks in a couple of hours and get back to you...

No Worries! One of the items on my buy list is the manual, which I will get on Tuesday. I had the seal and time to do it, so on Sunday, apart came the bike. New clutch cable, spark plug leads and the fork seal. It is now all back together 'cept for the top cap on the left tube. Once I know the wt and amount, I'm out riding it again.

Cool... I was on my way to fetch it, but if you can live without the bike until tomorrow, no problem...

0.47 litre of 5w or 10w fork oil. At least that is what haynes says.

Confirmed. Chicago BMW service was open today and they stated the same. 470 cc with 7.5wt fork oil.

Thanks for the responses.

That sounds like a cocktail mixture of 5W and 10W (stirred, not shaken!)
Isn't that splitting hairs?

Not at all. It is available in those weights to help fine tune the suspension. Though I suspect it's not as critical in a telelever since the forks are nothing but sliders and don't have pressure.

Since the fluid is a lubricant only, I would choose a fairly light weight oil to minimize the fluid drag on the forks.
