I'm going to be looking for a set of the "Beta" heads [The ones with the larger valves] for a motor I'm building up for my RS... Does anyone know the manufacture date range for these?... VIN number range would be very helpful...

Also, in the online parts fiche there are two types of heads listed: 9-fin and 10-fin... Is this the determining factor?... There seem to be a lot of variables I had not expected... 6 MM and 6 MM versions of the 9-fin heads for example...

Basically, I want to put a set of Beta heads on an R1200C motor... I already have the motor, but some of the variables lead me to believe that even though the bore is the same, some heads may not be interchangable...

Has me very :confused: :confused: :confused: :confused: :confused: ...

Here's a screen shot of the page in question... I know we have some BMW certified techs here, so could someone please explain this to me?...

I read someplace that the VIN number that denotes "Beta" status.
I found this quote on another internet page:
====
RS with VINs from 0312537 onwards have the new cable.
====
I know how to tell the new throttle cable,
but is there any way to tell if the new transmission is on the bike?
====
'94s from 0311168 onwards have the updated trans
====
If a
bike has the old transmission, and it's noisy, will BMW replace or repair
it?
====
If under warranty, for sure. If not and with pressure, probably.
====
He's looking at a bike at a dealer, and the dealer is quite vague as to
the
transmission question. I personally recommended trying to find a 95 and
paying a bit more than a 94....any advice I could pass along to him would
be
greatly recommended, especially in the area of service bulletins affecting
early models. Thanks as usual to the usual suspects!
====
If it's VIN 1167 or older (lower number) it's a Beta. If it is, no big
deal as long as updates were performed: trans, clutch, motronic computer
for hard starting. '94 or '95 makes less difference than the VIN change.

It came from this page:
http://www.slack.net/~thundt/Bmw/recall.txt
So it's in ibmwr archives at:

good luck!
