View Full Version : Screen fixing screws torque settings?

I have just replaced the stock screen on my bike with a Wudo. I noticed that there were small cracks around the mounting holes on the standard screen when I removed it - is there a recommended torque setting for the screws? I would imagine that there could be problems with under tightening as well as overtightening. Thanks!

Just done the same switch on my '02 RS. Presume you are doing this on an 1100 as I don't think the screen has inserts which will keep the pressure off the screen itself. I did consider attaching mine without these through the four holes in the Wudo to the smaller bracket beneath the brace but took the safe route by drilling out the new screen to accommodate these, keeping the '02 brace and adding two extra holes at the top.

On my removal/installation I used a drill with a torque setting for un-doing the original screws and kept it at the same setting for re-fixing, so no actual Nm I'm afraid. Probably less critical with the inserts anyway. This is probably not much help but the inserts and washers might be available from BMW and give you greater peace of mind. Incidentally, the holes on my Wudo didn't line up accurately with smaller bracket anyway and could have caused stress to the screen by trying to make them.

Yes, these small parts are available from BMW separately. Now take a deep breath..... Count for approx. € 45,- for a set orf washers, insert and bolts! Especially the inserts are hugely overpriced.

Thanks for the replies. My bike is an R1100RS- should have mentioned this!
