I'm new to the forum but I thought I'd pass this along.

While reading old posts, I came across a thread on throttle assist devices. All the common brands were mentioned with most every plus and minus I'd heard before. I had a Bob's Wristrest but found I didn't like it very much. Temperature seemed to affect the adjustment minute to minute. Actually, I found the o-ring solution very interesting.

One solution I did not see was the use of stock BMW parts. Some time ago I learned that the K1100LT European Police bikes were fitted with the friction screw (knurled knob) similar to the one found on older /5's, /6's and /7's. There are two parts necessary and they fit the R1100RS. My local BMW dealer gladly put in the order and I've been running them for a few years now.

Part Number Description USD (a couple of years old)
32 72 2 332 020 Housing, throttle $40.82
32 72 2 330 002 Bolt (i.e. friction screw) 12.50

The mod took me about a hour, including coffee breaks and misc. aux. cleaning. The screw is one the top of the housing unlike the older /5's, etc. where it was on the bottom. The screw is also a larger diameter than the old one, making it a little easier to adjust. Add a little lubricant once a year and maint is done. It is not affected by temperature and wear does not seem to be a factor.

It would be great to see any photos you might have of what the finished product looks like. I can't really visualise it but it sounds very interesting.

Cheers,
Mark

I will second this mod. When I purchased my 96 used a few years ago the previous owner had put the parts on. It works very well, just did a couple long days in the saddle on a fall camping trip....run the screw in until you can ride with out any pressure on the throttle and pretty much leave it. You can roll off the throttle to stop without changing the screw position. If you back the screw out about a 1/4 to 1/2 turn you get a nice gentle decel when off the grip, but
easy on the right hand for a long day.

Guys, Sorry this took so long to reply. Got to spend some quality time with all the grandkids Saturday and the wife and I just had to go to the AMA races at VIR Sunday. :D

Here are three pictures of the throttle screw. If this doesn't work, I'll just have to try again until I get it right. The 3rd picture is a little fuzzy 'cause I got to close but it does show the screw.
