I'm sure I'm going to be called an idiot, but how does one get a picture to appear on thier posts here?

I click on the insert image and it is looking for a web address.

Do I have to create a website and store pictures there and reference them to post?

That's what I do.

In the post you need to place some "img" code before and after the URL pointing to the location of the photo on your website.

The following is working link to a photo. Press the quote button at the bottom right of this post and you will then see the code used.

When you make a post, you will see a section below the text box headed "Additional Options". To attach a photo, pdf, text file or zip archive, click on the "Manage Attachments" button. You get prompted for the file name, which then gets uploaded onto the Bikersoracle site. No need for your own web server.
