Today's MCN has the top 10 of the RiDER power survey to be published in RiDE this week.
They must have seriously skewed the questions this year (I didn't notice). It's also affected by the way they separate some models and join others together (like last year when they spearated the 1100Rs and the 1150RS)
No BMWs, no FJR, no VFR, no Pan. I cna't wait for the full results to see where the Beemers have gone.
10 Ducati 916/996/998
9 GSX R1000 (03 -)
8 Blade (02-03)
7 GSX R1000 (01-02)
6 Aprilia RSV-R
5 YZF750R !!!!!!!!!
4 R1 (04)
3 R1 (02 - 03)
2 GSX R750
1 Blade (04)

See the other post on this... Sounds like MCN published the top 10 sportsbike list rather than the overall list ?

Apparently the R1150RS is #1 of Sport Touring Section.

Apparently the R1150RS is #1 of Sport Touring Section. In its rightfull place! :)
For a moment there, I thought the biking world had suddenly gone speed mad, knee down crazy. Normal service resumed.

According to some guys over at www.sport-touring.net, MCN says that BMW is the most reliable brand with 90% of all customers reporting no problems. This was taken from a survey of 10K bike owners. :D
The rest of the thread just bashes BMW's, which gets old. I haven't had time to look up the source of the report, but it sounds good.

According to some guys over at www.sport-touring.net, MCN says that BMW is the most reliable brand with 90% of all customers reporting no problems.Well in 7 years of ownership the only problems I've had is a failed temperature sensor and now a broken clutch cable. Given the age and mileage, I would say that my RS gets full marks for reliability. :yo:

Hmmm. We do seem to read quite a few problems owners are having with their BMWs. Maybe its when you divide them by miles covered that BMWs get pushed to the top of the heap!

Maybe that should be the new poll: Has your R1100RS or R1150RS experienced some kind of failure outside of normal service requirements and/or wear-and-tear associated with high mileage?
My answers: 97 1100RS, tranny broke at 7,400mi, oiled down clutch, all fixed under warranty. '02 1150RS, none.

'96 R1100RS now with 50K miles. One burned valve at about 32,000 miles, otherwise just normal wear and tear. :D

'04 R1150RS, 13k miles, had a failed fork seal at 100miles, no other problems. I love the bike, and I dont care what else BMW brings out, I have what I want here.

I've just read the October issue with the full report. And just to repeat an earlier post, in 'Sports-Tourer' category, the R1150RS was in first place, with the R1100RS 4th. They were split by the Honda CBR1100XX (carb vers. 2nd, and injected vers. 3rd).
Considering the fact that the RS has always been somewhere near the top in the last few surveys, it's surprising that the model just doesn't sell in bigger numbers. But let's hope that BMW management read the survey and take note of what a happy and satisfied bunch of Beemer owners we are. Surely they realise that there is a lucrative market out there, just waiting for a new R1200RS to be launched.
Maybe they even read this BBS - Who knows?
