My '93 1100 has no RID . However, poking around, there is an unused 8-way electrical connector under the right hand fairing, and a further unused 4-way connector on the left hand side under the seat. Both of these, according to Haynes, have wires connected with a gear position indicator, and in addition the 8-way seems to be connected to the fuel guage.

Given this, is fitting an RID a simple "plug 'n play"? Will the gear position switch and oil temp sensor already be fitted to the bike (how can I tell - Haynes is dumb on the matter). If everything is in place, I'd be happy with a working s/hand RID (plus mounting panel?) - does anyone have a spare knocking around?

All RID advice welcomed :help:

If your bike has two sets of wires coming from the back of the transmision and running up the right side of the bike near the fuse box (one connector will be unused) then you have the gear indicator switch installed at the back of the tranny and will be able to plug and play. All of the bikes seem to have the connector under the fairing for the RID unit itself, but some have the gear indicator switch and nuetral switch and some have only the nuetral switch installed at the back of the tranny.

If you do not have two sets of wires coming from the back of the tranny, the swing arm will have to be removed (with all that entails) in order to reach the area where the gear indicator fits.

Even without the gear indicator, the RID fuel level & oil temp functions will work just fine.

When I bought my '94 last year, it came w/o the RID but all the wiring was in place. Installation was plug and play. One note however, the RID inner fairing panel can be hard to get. I chose to by new parts at the dealer, everything was available except the panel which had to be special ordered from Germany.
