'94 R1100RSA. Easy enough to remove locked-up starter motor....What's this? Valeo..made in FRANCE. I guess the Germans and the French were getting along that year. Mike at Lone Star BMW explained that it draws less current than the equivalent Bosch.
Anyway, it seems like the magnets came unglued (typical French *&^*&#@#@)
Probably no good (semi-permanent) way this can be repaired. So anyone got a gently used one (model number D...55) I really don't want to spend $350 for a new one.
Thanks,

I believe the magnet brakes loose inside the motor, check out these two links for repair info:

http://www.euromotoelectrics.com/ supplies starter motors
for cheaper than dealer prices. The propreitor(?) John Rayski
used to put up new motors on eBay for about $190 as well,
you might want to check that option as well.
He was very communicative and polite when I bought one
from him.

The other alternative is to look for the car equivalent.
I'm not sure what it is for the oilhead but I recall that the airhead starter is the same as a Vauxhall (Opel) Astra except that is is opposite "handed"
Of course that depends on availability of these parts for small European cars over there.

Check out my page www.largiader.com/tech/valeo/ for some options. It's about Airhead Valeo starters but they're nearly identical to the Oilhead ones. The supplier (Ace) in Houston might have the one you need.
