Dont wear very often, very rarly need replacing. Honda's main fault that lets all 95% of there cam chain driven bikes down is the tensoner its self. When i worked at a Honda dearler changing them under warrenty was a weekly thing, but honda didnt bring out a moded part just kept sticking the same one on again. So with in about 1000 miles it needed changing again.

Main bike affected were the following:
CBR600 FX-FY
CBR600 F1 (1st Injection) to present day ones
CBR900 925 /954 blade

And the only recall done on the CBR600RR was we had one the clutch assy exploded on, made a right mess. All metal fragments in the engine.

The worse bike they built for faults was the ST1300 one word describes it CRAP! the 1100 was a far superiour bike.

Oh and another bike they ruined was the legondary VFR750 amazin bike with it unique gear driven cams, they brought out the VFR800 ok but i still liked the 750 but then came the VFR800 VTech Oh dear, to cut production costs they put, wait for it yes you've got it, honda's only fault a cam chain. Then to make matters worse they stuck Vtech on it, BIG MISTAKE! Its not a fecking car its a touring bike so you need power though out the range not like a weak pointless turbo comming in at X revs which it what the vtech feels like.

All they needed to do was Make the VFR750 a 1000cc and put hydrolic tappets on it so there no need to check the valve clearances.

Ooops sorry i seem to have gone on a bit , i stop now!

Thats my only complaint with honda's bikes.

Thanks
DTORU

I got misinformed by a workshop that my tensioner was failing so I've now got a manual one. To be honest I'm happy that I changed it anyway, 'cause it's definitely not going to fail suddenly and leave my chain flapping about.

lol

Manual ones are ok but dont allow tthe chain to give in extreme de-acceleration so in some cases can snap the chain, and you can over tighten them.

BUT I DO USE ONE because it is far better than the stock one and mainly for the same reasons as Taz

I have to admit that over tightening the chain was my main concern with fitting a manual tensioner. I did it up finger tight and then turned over the engine and tightened it till the clattering stopped, then did the same with it running. I left it at the point where the noise had only just stopped and all seems to be fine.

So I did it right then? Good!

The instructions said take off the cam cover and measure slack in the top run of chain!
