Bear in mind Muttley that I do not have the same extension as you do. With a longer reach extension I would think the stem mount would be fine. My tank bag is also higher, creating the problem I currently have with the view of the clocks.

There are merits to both fittings IMO. The stem mount is easy to fit and is stable, it also moves with the bars when you turn. The fixed mount is probably more strong due to the way the mount is fixed to the bike.

If my tank bag was not as deep then I think my mount would be fine.

That's useful to know for anyone with same model as us, did you use a tank bag Gary

So what we really want to know is just how much/what stuff do you keep in your suitcase attached to your tank

Best to be prepared when you have seen the route on Google. I had supplies for three days just in case we ended up in a wood somewhere with no way of getting back to a road. Aerosol tyre inflator: does exactly what it says. Inflates your tyre if punctured. DOH.

If mounted to the fork stem then yes, it will move with the bars!

100% sure Rich, but to be clear we are talking about this mount, aren't we?

http://www.buybits.com/product/3599.aspx

It's the same as the one that Kev has on his VFR. It fits into the top of the yolk down the stem tube. It is fixed internally and grips the stem, so when you turn the bars it will turn to.
