@ Fink:

Have you got any tips for crimping the bullet connectors on? I always end up having to solder them to make them secure enough.

I want to do MeHeatedGrips, but getting a soldering iron out to Me954 is tricky. Are these likely to be easier to crimp than the wires for MeTwatNav were, or will I end up needing to solder these, too?

Sounds like cable is bit small for connectors, or your crimpers are knackered

What are you trying to crimp them with? Bear ends back approx 1cm twist and bend back over on wire. Outer sheathing should be held by the large "legs" the wire by the smaller ones then crimp.

Nor do I as it goes. Especially if a cable is going to moved around a lot I will never put solder on it.

They look like the jaws of death I got the same crimper. If you could manage the time it might be a good idea to do a You Tube clip of how to crimp properly.

I think I paid about £13 for my ratchet crimps which (sorry to say) are normally quite superior to that type.

Soldering is fine in applications where the wire will not be moved about. But if it is a wire that will be moved about a lot, then soldering is not best way forward, you are making a weak point in the wire. You can test this theory out for yourself by soldering the wire and then flexing the wire. The copper wire will break where it meets the solder. There is a way to get around it and that is if you support the unsoldered copper for a few mm back from the point of soldering which in all fairness if you have done the job correctly then it should be supported but many people use too much solder which flows down the copper creating this weak point.

Bleh Ive always been to cheap to buy a crimper, Ive use them many times, but not going to buy one.

To get a good crimp with pliers takes some care, but I think it has better results. Squash the crimp with the normal pliers, then at 1/3rd an 2/3rs the length of crimp, use the wire cutting part to really squash the crimp on. Sure, it takes 3 squashes instead of one, but one less tool. If you dont do the second bit, it will fail.
