Hate to say it, but...

The Harwich ferry doesn't go the Hamburg any more...They got priced out of the port by the port authority...

Its now Hawich to Cuxhaven (northern coast of Germany) Ferry leaves at 1700, and arrives at Cuxhaven at 1130(local time) the following morning. Just quite how we go 130 miles less distance, and it takes a few hours longer... Just cant understand (maybe have to try to conserve fuel)

Only reason we know this, is because we travelled on it last year, and we are going on it again next week..

BTW... its cheaper this year than last year, but you do have to tie your own bike down(although its no hassle)

Cheers,

Rolfy & Jan

DFDS route from Harwich to Cuxhaven has now finished permanently

Jan & I loved that route...

was perfect for going to northern Germany...

So, looks like its Esjberg again this year (not doing the run in 4 hours again though )

Sorry to bring bad news.

Rolfy

Like you Rolfy I have done Harwich-Cuxhaven 4 times now and I really enjoyed the service. Everyone was so helpful and friendly. It really is a shame it's packed in. I have stayed overnight in Cuxhaven twice and done all the usual touristy things including a boat trip out to see the seals. I really like the place. Small, quaintish, quietish and extremely friendly people. I was once complemented on my (O level) German so I am biased now :-)

I have done Harwich-Esbjerg 3 times and again the service is really friendly. You are treated like a person and not like a number as on the bigger ferries. I am using Hull-Rotterdam again this year for convenience but the vessels are so big, crowded and impersonal.

Looks like Rolfy Dave has found an alternative for the Harwich/Cuxhaven route
Immingham/Cuxhaven by freighter. Four times a week and much cheaper, no frills boat ride, bookings will be made soon!!!Only drawback, dry ship sp1ttt3

these guys are horrendous. don't use them. out of a group of ten, we had 4 bikes knocked over on a crossing a couple of weeks ago. to be fair the crossing was rough, but i've been on worse with brittany ferries, and no damage done. these guys were trying to stick mirrors back on when we came down having been left upstairs whilst all the car drivers had already been sent down.

New Company, Portsmouth to Bilbao (Spain)

It's probably old news?
but there is a new operator doing the Portsmouth - Bilbao crossing ACCIONA
They look a bit cheaper than P&O whom are still running on this crossing as well.

SpeedFerries

Bikes are back on again and only £15.

I got this email from them.

Dear Customer

It’s with great pleasure that SpeedFerries can once more welcome motorcyclists aboard

As you may recall, the carriage of motorcycles was halted because of the inefficiencies of securely lashing the cycles onboard. After an extensive, global search, a solution that allows us to safely carry motorcycles once more has been found right here in the UK.

Hitchlugger, a small niche company, was founded by motorcycle enthusiast Geoffrey Kendall. Having grown his business by making Motorcycle Carriers for other enthusiasts, Geoffrey was delighted to come to Dover and adapt his product for SpeedFerries. Ideally suited for the fast craft, the carrier enables motorcycles to be stowed speedily and securely during all weathers.

Introductory £15 per crossing!

The new carrier systems will be in place 5 November 2007 and are already available to book online. Book now at introductory prices starting from just £15 per crossing for travel throughout 2008, there couldn’t be a better time to secure your trial of the new system.

Glad to have you back

Kind regards

Curt Stavis
Chief Executive Officer
