View Full Version : Scratchers-Bank Holiday weekend
OK, so it's BH weekend, but surely you can get away from the kids and family for one day and it sure beats being stuck in a traffic jam in a people carrier listening to Latvia's entry for the next Eurovision song contest! So does anyone fancy a ride-out this coming weekend? I'm suggesting we do (weather permitting) the famous Ogri Cafe and Rye via some quality roads (not the A22) and then onto some other points of interest. However I'm not sure when everyone can make it, so let's see how the poll turns out (it'll be an early-ish start whatever we decide!), so Reefer won't be coming :}

"so Reefer won't be coming "

Yea,yea-I know,tis bound to pi$$ down. Well it is a Bank Holiday but who knows,with this run of weird pre-summer weather,who knows !!!!!
I for one am buying copious amounts of ozone unfriendly deoderants in order to bugger up the ozone layer and produce a blazing hot atmosphere.

on quality roads that still have some bloody surface left on em
meaning what Reefer? :dunno: the surfaces on the roads (twisties) we ride are just fine (ask the boys if in doubt!) and interesting (unlike the A303,etc), so talk to the hand:} :f
If ya actually get round to joining us on decent ride-out you'll find out won't you?
Tell you what, I'll organise a ride-out for the Catalunya trippers on similiar roads mentioned on the weekend at Physco's thread (no complaints from anyone that day!). That'll give us an opportunity to have a gathering also.

It's got to be Friday, just think about it, who ever had a good word to say about Monday's?
The Boomtown Rats hated it, The Bangles didn't like it, and all the other songs/moans/groans all to do with Monday's - Monday, Monday, no good to me (don't know who sang that one, showing me age just knowing the song :eek: ).
Whoo-hoo, it's F-F-F-Friday! Thank crunchie it's Friday! Thank fook it's Friday etc etc etc.
Right, I'll get me coat now....

Ya can't have a half day ride out can ya:}
Better make it a Monday then Dave:-: :yo:
Wolvey, what actually happens there, are there are any quality roads to ride on the way and is it not just a procession up the A13 or the A217 :dunno: I've never been, so that's why I ask?
The A303 is about as twisty as ..... a strand of uncooked pasta

Looks like Monday is odds on favorite at the mo.

Are the only two roads into Southend it becomes a bit of a 'procession' getting in there !!!!
But Essex does have some 'quality roads'.........so why not go to the Shakedown and then head out to Epping...... have a cuppa at the High Beech bike meet....take a ride on the B183/B184......then the B1057 to Finchingfield ........Not a bad ride !!!!!:}
Wanna try it ????:}

thanks for the recommendations, have you ever ridden the B184 that goes through Great Dummow and Saffron Walden, then on to the B1052 towards the A14 - cracking.
Also, from Halstead take the B1124, then the A1017 & B1061 heading towards the A14.
Lastly, starting at Halstead, take the A131, onto the B1115, then the A1120 towards Yoxford.
All :bow: nice roads, although Reefer would complain about.

Sorry Ben but I've voted for the Friday mate...............
I want to have a good blast and then leave everyone else to deal with the extortionate numbers of 'weekend pikeys' that'll be on the roads on Sunday / Monday................plus if I ride Friday that leaves me 3 clear days to get absolutely properly bollocked:-: :-:

You can only come out on a ride out if you promise to take out a couple of spark plugs:cry:
if it's hells angels you want Sarah, then just have a word with Doc and his mates (the Irish Chapter) :} .
For gawd sakes, this ride-out is proving to be more difficult to organise than our trip to Catalunbya GP in June :} Anyways (as they say in NYPD BLUE) Sunday and Monday looks like rain, so I reckon it's gotta be Friday. If Sam and Russ are gonna join us, then how about meeting at Petersfield, then taking the B2146 onto the B2141 through Chilgrove, onto Mid and East Lavant and onto Goodwood (tea stop perhaps?). We could then pass Bury Hill & take the B2138 to Petworth and pick up the A272 all the way across where Dave T can then lead us (if he's willing?) to Rye via the quality roads he knows!!! How about a 9.30am start at Petersfield. Feedback, suggestions, comments please.
Sarah - if you're not up for this, let me know what your plans are 'cos I'd like to join you & Steve on a ride at some stage over the weekend?
Ben (I know it's not easy) but see if you can get ya pass brought forward. If you can't, don't worry 'cos (weather permitting) I'll join ya on Monday anyway.

Cheers for today gang - had a great time, sorry to have buzzed off and missed Rye but I was gaggin' to get pissed in the sun.........
Memory of the day??? Following Joe and Cruiser fast into a dark tight right-left.........heart was in my mouth guys...........thanks for making me feel alive!
it was good first thing and roads were clear when we left Rye, however, if it's the same dark tight right-left I'm thinking about then all I can say is I'm still not all together sure how I got out of that one. Also, apologies to Russ for having my moment in front of him :bow: Good on ya fella, I'm just pissed off I didn't get me elbow down while I was down there :}
It was certainly my memory of the day followed by (& I know he won't thank me for this);
On the way to Rye we were making good progress along a nice B road approaching a tightish right hander, Russ saw the road was clear and cranked the birdy over and safely swept underneath me (respect) :yo:
