View Full Version : Bikers Oracle tour May 2006
We posted details of our next club European tour less than a week ago and more than half the places are already gone, so if you fancy an 11 day trip (just a week off work) taking in the very best French and Spanish roads, and staying in some very fine hotels, check out the following link and book very quickly!

Hey - looks like i missed the boat on this one - however it looks fantastic.
Its funny you know i said to my other half last night - think i might look into a biking trip around france next yr some time "wanna come along?" then i jump on the forum today and look what i find - just too late!!
so i'll keep my eyes peeled for other tours you're arranging on the continent
I have a couple of questions: -
I'm in Australia so does anyone have ideas if it would be easier to buy a bike over in UK, Spain, France - ride it then sell it - i'd be looking for a Bird. Option is to put my bike in a container and ship it over, but i imagine that'll take a month or so & cost $$$$. probably cost more than i'd lose on selling the bike at firesale prices??
Also medical insurance and bike insurance etc - any info appreciated.
I know of another couple (i'd be bringing pillion) that would be interested, and we'd (all 4) proabably extend for at least another week (do paris & other cities) coz the airfare to get there is so $$$ have to make a trip of it.
So considering we'd be flying from Oz we'd be best to meet the group after the ferry - and probably not need the tunnel pass at the end. Can adjustments be made to the price to reflect this.
can you email me info on any other trips you're arranging?

Hi Ken
IMHO, It'd be cheaper to buy a bike and then sell it again, but there might just be another option: We have a few members who go to Auz and you might be able to strike up an exchange deal with them. In other words, offer to lend them your bike for a week or so if they visit Auz in return for borrowing their bike for a week or so here. We had two guys on the VFR club do that, they just added each other to their insurance as a named rider and it all worked out very well. You could always put a request on the site. If it doesn't work out, buy a nice 4-5 year old Bird and sell it on Oracle central before you leave. With the help of a few members here in finding one, you shouldn't loose much.

If you don't go the swap route, get a 12 month policy online, sign up to pay monthly and then cancel it after the holiday - by far the cheapest way ;)

Yeah sure - we're a club rather than a commercial tour company, so you won't get any of that "can't do that 'cos it's not in the brochure" type rubbish. We can easily knock off the price of the ferry or the tunnel - no probs.

Keep an eye on the tours forum here Ken:

There are two other tours next year - a rather specialised one which does some great roads but takes in some places of historical interest from WW2.

And there will be a short 5 day trip round Normandy in late Summer, but final details are still to be decided. We will be doing the Verdon trip again the same time in 2007 and there is an amazing three week trip planned to the Arctic Circle and back if you fancy something quite spectacular.
Hope to see you on one soon  .

Looks like it will probably be 2007 now!!
There are 4 couples now talking about coming from Oz (that means 4 bikes to buy!!)
Will keep an eye on it
